The Peugeot 208 was given an urban-chic makeover for the latest generation, enhancing the model’s sporty and elegant charm. Offered as a three or five-door, the model is more refined than ever inside and out. It also delivers an engaging driving experience to make any trip an occasion to look forward to.
Peugeot redesigned the 208 for a more assertive look, starting at the front. A sharper ‘face’ includes narrowed headlamps, a contoured bonnet and the wide grille with integrated daytime running light that others in the range also share. At the rear are signature ‘feline’ taillights with red 3D LEDs styled in a lion claw motif. Both three and five-door shapes benefit from short and rear overhangs to keep the car compact and city-friendly. Alloy wheels are fitted above the entry-level Access A/C trim, while the Allure grade above this adds cornering assist fog lights and dark tinted rear windows.
Beneath the sophisticated exterior is a comfortable cabin crafted to an uncompromising standard. Ergonomics play a big part in your comfort and driving enjoyment. The instrument panel, for example has been positioned higher up behind the wheel so your eyes can stay on the road. The steering wheel has been shrunk for a greater feeling of control, while a touchscreen display on the dash offers effortless access to a variety of infotainment functions. Make the interior yours by choosing from a variety of interior personalisation packs in a range of colours.
Engines and performance
Peugeot’s carefully engineered PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesel engines are offered in the 208 for the performance and output you want. The 1.6-litre BlueHDi is an award-winner for its clean emissions output and excellent fuel economy. The powertrain with start/stop function can return as much as 94.2mpg combined, and it emits a staggering 79g/km of CO2. The petrols are lively yet efficient. Big thrills come from the 205bhp 1.6-litre THP thanks to its 300Nm of torque. The model can surge from a standing start to 60mph in under 6.5 seconds when fitted with a smooth six-speed manual gearbox.
Safety and technology
Peugeot’s very latest safety features give you total confidence inside the 208. Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) is found across the range, and it helps you stay in control by detecting and correcting a loss of traction, oversteer or understeer. You can switch it off in GTi models should you ever venture onto the track and want to unleash the car’s full potential. ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) slows the city car as quickly as possible but without causing it to become unstable. Accidents are therefore unlikely, but if they do happen, everyone is protected inside by a multitude of airbags.
Technology keeps you entertained and connected as well as safe in the 208. Bluetooth® is a standard addition which you can use to stream music directly from a device and take calls hands-free. An auxiliary jack and USB port also allow you to plug in and play your choice of audio. All but the entry model come with a seven-inch touchscreen display to take control of these functions and others such as satellite navigation, where fitted.
The 208 can be test driven from Haywards Peugeot soon, where an adviser will accompany you to answer all your queries. Get in touch with the team in Sevenoaks, Kent online or call us to schedule a visit.
